[forums]Re: One song out of order on my upload
Posted by bluemangroove on Nov 19, 2014 9:15pm into etree
In a follow up to the post below, I just downloaded the show onto my ipod from iTunes and Sneakin Sally comes through as Track #25. Again, it is listed properly as 19 in the metadata. Please advise how I can realign it to be in the proper order. Otherwise I will request that the show be taken down and I'll give it another try from the drawing board. Thanks!...

Thanks for your help. It's essential for me that this show transfer to iTunes properly. When I transfer this current version, Sneakin Sally Through the Alley comes through in a separate file from the rest of the show. I know you're all about things looking right on LMA and they do, but I wonder if you can think of any reason this would happen in regards to iTunes. Thanks!...

I've not downloaded any of the 24-bit files, but did download the regular mp3s (mostly just under 300kbps) of the Nassau show via iTunes - and they sound very good indeed through a moderately good hi-fi setup (I'm listening to the Beam at 8:40 in Drums as I write and everything's shaking nicely...). That Nassau show is a fine, fine performance. In my opinion/experience it doesn't make any detectable difference if I listen to Grateful Dead recordings in higher quality than say 320kbps......

Hey skootz, perhaps you saw 9/17/72 at the Civic Center. That was my first show. I was a senior in HS and we had to cross a Blank Panther type picket line to enter the center. Not that they were protesting the Dead, rather something else more important to them at the time. I was there with my friends - all in our Catholic school girl uniforms. Life has never been the same. There are starting to do this although maybe not in the most convenient way. All of the sudden you can get the whole Road Trips series as set at the iTunes Store. Not sure why they didn't let people purchase each release separately. Many of these are no longer available at dead.net (listed as sold out even though they weren't limited release). I don't mean to come across as a barbarian, but I guess I fall into the "mainstream" mentioned above. The nuances of super audiophile listening are lost on me I'm afraid. Maybe I have become desensitized. I just like to be moved and enjoy the music, rock out if you will. I like the convenience of iTunes, iPod, etc. I recall running into a friend of mine who is a sound tech, and we were talking about a local theater where we hear shows (he used to work there), and he said the sound was so bad in......

The real competition is to see how many songs can get crammed into said amount of memory. Having 5000 mediocre sounding garbage I-tunes loaded on the device is the most important thing for the tone deaf generation. Just like having 1000 assbook friends is more important than having a few real breathing face to face friends - oh how awkward that must be to actually have to interact with a person right there......

A ploy by the major music labels and others to get out from under Apple's iTunes nonsense? Is this finally something that isn't in a hurry /race to the bottom of mediocrity? Is there any science to say this is truly better or is it just a placebo effect because if the file is 24 bit it has to be better quality? I'm a Neil fan and even if there is some ......

I'm guessing you're kinda new to the GD collect-it-all-obsessively world. Mars Hotel was one of the studio albums; it doesn't involve a show, although the re-release (or one of them) does muck it up with a grab-bag of tracks from various shows in '73-74 ... I'm a purist so I'd whiningly insist on Only The Original Tracks :-) Probably the reason someone might (rather sensibly) categorize one of the formal studio albums as 74-1-1 is just to put "the album/s released that year" in a separate categ......

I find if much more irritating when long sections of the second set are left intact as 1 track! There are plenty of instances where I might just want to hear one stellar second set track in the midst of a more mediocre 80s or 90s seamless second set. For example, if I wanted to just hear the lovely rendition of Stella Blue from SPAC 1988 I don't want to have to wade through a super long track of the entire seamless set just to find the start of it......

I don't always practice what I preach, but having some kind of backup plan is really essential - especially in your circumstance, given the way these machines crap out unexpectedly. You'll need some way to migrate your photos, movies, music, work documents and Word files. As Mando notes, external storage is pretty cheap nowadays... but if you have a flash drive you can copy it over in pieces. It was as easy as plugging in, copying files, unplugging, plugging in to new machine and copying the files into the new folder.
